Diary- Week 1

Week 1

Day 1

Today I started my Final Major Project!!!! I was so excited when first given this brief, as I already had a few ideas on what I wanted to do. I had three ideas, therefore the first step I took was to make a Design Explanation wheel. This allowed me to look at the in's and out's of each idea, and what would work more. After doing so, I decided to make a travel magazine.
I knew that this would be something that would have my full attention, as I absolutely love to visit new places. I have also been extremely lucky growing up, and I have visited some of the most amazing places. Therefore, I think this project would work in my favor, as I already have the photographs, all I have to do is everything else!!!!

Day 2

So today, I started the build up to making a travel magazine. I first of all started off by creating a Pinterest board. This allowed me to look at other travel photographs, and see how they produce/create their work. I started saving photographs into my Pinterest board, which then led me to print a few photographs off to create a mood board. After doing this, I then made a mind map, which allowed me to write a few ideas down that were floating around in my head.
I really enjoyed today, as I liked looking at other photographers work (and most definitely drawling over them too!). I liked looking at the ways some photographs purely focus on either the countries architecture and culture. This has inspired me to take similar photographs when I next go on holiday, as I have never really thought of doing this.

Day 3 and 4

So day 3 and 4 are our days off. I work both days, however I found time on the Wednesday (day 3) to nip into a travels agents to collect holiday brochures, and on Thursday (day 4) I nipped into my local supermarket to pick up a travel magazines. Even though not much work was completed, this would allow me to be prepared for my task on either the weekend or Monday to start annotating them.

Day 5

Today I started my artist research. I only came across 3 travel photographers that I liked the look of, these were Justin Mott, Elia Locardi and Timothy Allen. All three artists are quite different from each other as they all look as different aspects of travel photography. I chose three artists that are different to each other, because I could look at comparisons, similarities and different aspects that make their photographs work. I managed to do two photographers quite quickly throughout the day, however I got extremely bored by the time it came to writing about my third artist. Writing about artists is not something that interests me, because even though I enjoy looking at their work, I can never seem to put my thoughts and opinions in writing. I struggle a lot with this part. I decided to call it day at the beginning of writing about the third artist, as I didn't want to write rubbish, therefore I left this for another day.

Day 6 and 7 (weekend)

On the weekend I never have time to do college work, as I work both days. However, I managed to annotate some travel magazines and brochures. I stuck them down on A2 paper, and circled parts that I liked and disliked. I also looked at layouts and how photographs were edited. All this research will definitely help me later on, when making  my travel magazine.
